Operation Blue Santa Toy Donation
Toys were collected for Operation Blue Santa at the 100 Club's annual Holiday Party. We thank all of those who participated. Happy holidays!
"Operation Blue Santa is a 501(c)(3) – non-profit, community based corporation, organized by the Austin Police Department, with support from the Texas National Guard, the Austin Fire Department, the Austin Parks and Recreation Department and Austin Energy. Each year we provide each family we serve with a full holiday meal and wrapped Christmas gifts for each child under age 14. Our service to citizens of Austin began back in 1972 serving about 20 families, this year we will easily serve over 3500 families. This is only possible because of the goodwill and big hearts of Austin’s citizens, businesses, and civic groups that support us each year."

Operation Blue Santa
The History
<
"Operation Blue Santa is a 501(c)(3) – non-profit, community based corporation, organized by the Austin Police Department, with support from the Texas National Guard, the Austin Fire Department, the Austin Parks and Recreation Department and Austin Energy. This charitable outreach began in 1972 when two patrol officers realized that some families on the patrol beat would not have gifts or food for their children at Christmas.
Each year we provide each family we serve with a full holiday meal, complete with turkey/chicken and all the trimmings, and wrapped Christmas gifts for each child under age 14. Our service began with about 20 needy families, this year we will easily serve over 3500 families. This is only possible because of the goodwill and big hearts of Austin’s citizens, businesses, and civic groups that support us each year.
Thank you Austin and surrounding communities!"

KVUE and State Farm partner for annual Habitat for Humanity home build
by KVUE News
Posted on November 29, 2010 at 11:58 AM
The Home for the Holidays blitz build is underway. With hammers and hard work, dozens of volunteers are helping to make one family's holiday dream come true.
This is the fourth year KVUE, State Farm and Habitat for Humanity teamed up to build a home for a special family.
The home will soon belong to Jennifer De La Garza and her three young children. The family has been waiting for two years. Since then, Jennifer has put in her share of sweat equity on other Habitat homes.
Habitat helps low-income families secure affordable loans so they can become homeowners. New homeowners pay for their houses and must put in 400 hours of sweat equity on other houses before they can buy a home of their own.
The home will be finished on Dec. 18.

National Night Out 2010
National Night Out 2010
On Tuesday October 5, 2010 neighborhoods throughout Austin are invited to join with thousands of communities nationwide for the 27th Annual National Night Out.
'National Night Out' is designed to:
1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
2. Generate support and participation in crime efforts.
3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations.
4. Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
On October 5, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., residents in neighborhoods throughout Austin and across the nation are asked to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors, police officers, firefighters and EMS paramedics. Events such as cookouts, block parties and neighborhood walks will all occur simultaneously throughout the city and nationwide.
This evening is a great opportunity for citizens and law enforcement to partner up against crime. We are encouraging everyone to come meet your neighbors and commit to help law enforcement reduce crime in your community. It is time to show the criminal element that we as a society are not going to just sit back and let crime occur in our neighborhoods. APD will make every effort to have a 1st responder stop by each party that is registered by the deadline date of September 15, 2010.
Please be aware that unforeseen circumstances may limit the number of 1st responders available to attend even those parties who register early.
JOIN NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2010

ABC's "My Generation" Premiere
Did anyone get to see ABC's "My Generation" last night? Did you know that the show is actually filmed in Austin? We got to see a lot of local landmarks and our downtown skyscrapers. Below is a comment from a viewer:
"I really liked it! Has a lot of potential, and they really set up a great deal of plot lines in this first hour!Looking forward to where the stories/characters will go (& especially felt for the Kenneth "nerd" character -- poor guy).I didn't think it was too slow at all - maybe others felt that because of the interviews, but I thought they helped us get into the characters better). The previews for the birthing look great. Can't wait!"
As some of you may know, the 100 Club of Central Texas hosts its 10th golf tournament at Twin Creeks Country Club in Cedar Park, November 8th. We are planning to invite the cast of "My Generation" to join us! Keep your fingers crossed ... we'll keep you posted.

Sea World San Antonio Comes to KVUE-TV Austin
Summer is a great time to head out to a place like SeaWorld, but for many kids who are in the hospital with various illnesses, that simply is not possible.
So this week, SeaWorld is coming to them. The kids over at Dell Children's Medical Center will see a whole host of animals.
Angie Llanas, the animal ambassador at SeaWorld San Antonio, visited KVUE with some of the creatures the kids will get to meet.

Memorial Erected to Recognize Fallen Officer
Fallen First Responders killed while on duty now have something to show for. The memorial program is the brainchild of Austin police Officer Jason Huskins, who learned of the Austin officers who had fallen in the line of duty as part of his training through the police academy.
"Ninety-five percent of people who drive through here don't know," Huskins says, looking out at the corner. "Now, hopefully, that will change."
Each memorial is 20 inches wide and 6 inches thick and will bear an Austin Police shield and list the officer's name and last day of service, along with information about him or her and how the officer was killed. The memorial will be placed as close as possible to where the officer was killed.
Huskins found support for the idea through Rockdale Memorial Co., which has built similar memorials for Texas Department of Public Safety officers. The company is donating the memorials for the Austin program. Twenty Austin police officers have died in the line of duty since 1875.
In a few cases where it's not possible to erect the large memorial, a plaque will be placed near where an officer died, Huskins said.
"As time passes, the general public tends to forget, but the family, the officers, they remember," Huskins said. Now, they can remember and "it serves as a place for the family to come."
Velma Hunter-Gonzales, a 100 Club of Central Texas Board Member, quietly wiped tears flowing beneath her sunglasses after witnessing a crew erect a 5-foot-4-inch-tall gray granite memorial to honor of her son, Clint Hunter.
"It's things like this that help us remember he will not be forgotten," said Colleen Hunter-Gaudreau , Hunter's widow, who has since remarried and lives with her husband, daughter Mikayla, and 2-month-old and 2-year-old boys in Cedar Park.
